Women
affected with PCOS or the ovarian cyst syndrome suffer
from infertility as
their ovaries get filled up with numerous small cystic
structures measuring around 2 to 9 mm in diameter. This
often causes ovulation problems as well. In sharp
contrast, in a typical menstrual cycle where ovulation
takes place, the size of a mature follicle, which is
also a cystic structure, is found to be of 18 to 28 mm
in
diameter.
The infertility rate with PCOS is
rather high with the result that, women may find it
difficult to conceive, which however, may be corrected
with the help of appropriate
treatment.
As a
matter of fact, the aim of the treatment modality is to
see that the woman can ovulate. However, therapies
differ from one woman to another as no single pill can
cure all the ills. For instance, treatment for
infertility
required for an overweight teenager will greatly differ
from that meant for a matured lady of
35.
Leaving aside minor details, PCOS
fertility treatment consist of (1) Clomid, (2) Femara
(Letrozole), (3) Metformin, (4) Inject able
Gonadotropin, (5) Insulin sensitizer in combination with
Gonadotropin therapy, (6) Laparoscopic ovarian drilling
and (7) IVF - In Vitro
Fertilization.
Incidentally, Laparoscopic ovarian drilling
, in which a minute sterilized needle is used to
puncture the ovary and electric current (approximately
of 40 wattage) is passed through it, proves to be quite
effective in making the patient ovulate impulsively. And
once ovulation takes place, pregnancy is a definite
possibility.
While there are many conventional treatments for PCOS and natural PCOS treatments as well to help the woman conceive, the problem is, the cyst will almost always return and this can cause problems even when she is pregnant. This happens because the reasons why the cyst got formed remains. Holistic remedies on the other hand treat the root causes and eradicate them. Thus, the cyst never returns.
