Ovarian Cancer and Ovarian Cyst Syndrome. Is There a Connection?

Despite the invention of several life-saving drugs, approximately 25,000 new cases of ovarian cancer are diagnosed in the US , of which 14,500 patients die each year. Perfunctory lifestyle, consumption of junk food and late conception are the underlying causes of ovarian cancer. Cyst treatment thus becomes an urgent need. Cancer ovarian is a malignant disease in which, the cancerous cells are found in the ovary. An ovary is one of the two almond-shaped organs situated on each side of the uterus that produce female hormones and lay up eggs. When diagnosed and treated early, it has a 5-year survival rate. Insignificant primary symptoms coupled with varying illnesses are responsible for the misdiagnosis.

Even though there are several types of cancer ovarian , the most common type is Epithelial which involves the surface cells of the ovary. Also, since the ovary has many other types of cells, it may lead to many other types of malignancies that include Lymphomas or additional forms of cancer.

So far as cyst treatment is concerned, there are currently two options - (1) Surgery followed by chemotherapy and, (2) Neo-adjuvant chemotherapy where the chemotherapy is administered first, and this may be followed by surgery.

Most people favor the latter, since this treatment allows the reduction of the tumor's bulk. Some people however feel that cancerous cells spread faster immediately after surgery. But it all depends on the physical condition of the patient and the extent of attack.
