Women suffering from the ovarian
cyst syndrome or PCOS, which is also known as
Stein-Leventhal Syndrome or as the Polycystic Ovarian Disease show
symptoms that include very irregular or zero menstrual
periods, obesity, acne, excessive hair growth on the
face or other areas, hair loss in scalp, infertility,
high cholesterol level, elevated blood pressure, higher
blood sugar level and insulin resistance. It needs to be
however mentioned here that not all women will show all
the symptoms.
Researchers now believe that these abnormalities
somehow resemble with those that are manifest in Type-II
Diabetes, and so medications used to treat Type-II
Diabetes should also work for PCOS. Can cyst removal be
achieved through this? Let us
investigate.
Metformin (Glucophage) appears to be the most
common medication that is used to treat Type -II
Diabetes that affects the action of insulin. Thus, it
has been tested with the symptoms of PCOS and found to
be quite
effective.
However,
a newer Type-II Diabetes medication called
Byetta
(exenatide) has proved to be very effective both in
Type-II Diabetes and PCOS. So it is expected that this
medication will be a front runner in fighting both these
conditions.
However,
Byetta is
not recommended for women who are in the process of
conceiving because of risks of birth defects. But
conventional medical practitioners feel that otherwise,
Byetta is quite suitable for all women who are suffering
from PCOS.
Though there are conventional cures for ovarian cyst and natural treatments for PCOS, but the fact is, holistic remedies works best always. While most treatments treat just the symptoms, holistic remedies treat the root causes and get rid of them for good.
